Hey y’all. Today i want to talk about routine– because I am kind of the worst at it!
List-making, I got that down. Planning and scheduling? Check. But when it come to actually sticking to the to-do’s I’ve set for myself, I tend to drift into go-with-the-flow-mode, ditching plan A for plan B, which is always “whatever else comes up that sounds better.” This open-for-possibility attitude is totally my motto (and part of my gypsy spirit that I love) but one best reserved for roadtrips rather than workdays. Because the truth is that I thrive with routine, and too much free time on my hands somehow never leads to afternoons at the beach, but instead to snacking, errand-running, and other unproductive things that ultimately all go by the name of p-r-o-c-r-a-s-t-i-n-a-t-i-o-n.
SO. Now that I’m about to turn 28 I thought I’d challenge myself to keep a routine for 28 days (clever, huh? I didn’t even realize the 28-28 link till proofreading. Go me!) – because that’s how long it supposedly to form a habit. From there I’ll check back in and decide how well it’s working.
Since I’d still like to keep the afternoons open for beach days (hey, it might happen) I’m going to focus on my morning routine, namely the pre-9am hours that I spend guiltily sleeping in after my man has left for work.
Here’s how it’s gonna go- read more after the jump!
Engagement photos shot for my beautiful friends last week in Malibu. Couldn’t love these two more!

I can’t believe it’s been an entire year since Kate and I set off to live out our dream of a cross-country girls trip!
For new readers, this was originally one of Kate’s goals before she turned 30, and when we decided to take on this journey together, we had zero money and really didn’t know how it could all possibly work. But with little responsibility and a lot of free time (ha!) we knew life would only become more complicated and that we simply could not live out our twenties without exploring America on the open road. It HAD to happen. With the help of seriously amazing sponsors in each of our destinations along the way, it miraculously came together and we were able to spend 3 weeks driving from Los Angeles to Charleston (and 3 days driving back)! We stayed in 5 star hotels, ranches, Motel 6s, a haunted former confederate hospital and one teepee. Ate at award-winning restaurants, fruit stands and Olive Gardens. It was hilarious, frustrating, deeply inspiring. Some of my favorite photos from the journey:
Each of the above images link to posts, and I’ve also created a nifty little button on my sidebar where you can view the full roadtrip stories together.
In related news, I’m really excited to say there’s another road trip in the future!
It will not be quite so epic as the above, but this summer the fiance, pups and I will driving halfway across the country to visit his family and explore more parts of our beautiful country that we’ve never seen. We’ll stargaze in Montana, camp in Yellowstone, float on the lake in the north woods of Wisconsin, take pictures of sunflower fields and maybe even eat some pie. I’m pretty excited. Stay tuned!
One of my favorite artists to follow on the web is Laura D’art. She’s a traveler, lover of life, incredible photographer and peaceful-seeming soul. In my imagination we’re best friends but in real life I just admire her from afar! I fell in love with these photos she took of the equally inspiring Acre creative agency duo, Brad Shaffer and Leanne Ford. B+L had just gotten into LA after a cross-country roadtrip where they stopped in various states to pick up other artists heading west. Gypsy love. Enjoy their Malibu magic!

My mom came to visit from Vermont this past week and her visit FLEW by. We took a whirlwind trip to palm springs to search for a wedding venue (and found one!!) then another whirlwind trip to San Diego to visit with PJ’s family, tried on white gowns for the first time, ate at all my favorite restaurants and spent many hours reflecting on work, life, love, and the quest to have it all. Some snaps from our mother-daughter time via instagram:

I dont usually post about my design projects on here but one of my goals for this year is to start sharing more, both projects from the past and present… here goes the first!
When Laura, a wedding, fashion and lifestyle photographer contacted me as my first client in 2013 I knew it was sign of an incredible year to come. Anyone with the words sun chaser, whimsical, romantic, timeless, dreamy and animal/ nature conservation in their inquiry gets a big HELL YES from me!
Since I haven’t blogged about my process before, I always start with a moodboard to set the tone and color palate, and to explore general concepts. This phase of the process is always my favorite because in this “dreaming phase” I allow my mind to just wander for a few days, and meditate on the client at hand.
With Laura, I immediately started thinking watercolor, flower wreaths, dream catchers, fruits and blossoms, sketched cans and ribbons waving off the back of a car bumper, mandalas, and decorative, flowy fonts. The flowerchildren bohemians.
But as I thought about it more, I began to consider a possible darker, moodier side- circles of birds flying, silhouettes standing, horses running, quickly written fonts– the wild hearts, the solstice moon, the storytelling, the reality of love and its untamable ways.
So I went ahead and made two moodboards representing these different paths– both containing a dreamy element, circular patterns, turquoise and gold- but the first was softer, more feminine, and the second, bit messier; stronger-willed.
Throughout the 3 rounds of revisions we explored a combination of the two visual concepts, but ultimately, it was the buffalo shape that continued to win Laura’s heart. The final product below!

For those of you in Venice this weekend looking for something rad to do- sign up here! Hope to see you!
